The impact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway. Authorities said the Acura collided with a utility pole, breaking it, and the pole then fell onto the Honda, bringing down live power lines and creating hazardous conditions at the scene.
Emergency responders from Jefferson Township arrived quickly, with utility crews also dispatched to secure the area and shut down electrical lines. The driver of the Acura, who was the sole occupant, was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The driver of the Honda, also alone in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:55 a.m.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing, with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the crash. At this time, no additional details regarding contributing factors have been released.
