Emergency responders arrived to a devastating scene, finding a heavily damaged vehicle and three young occupants in urgent need of medical care. Officials said an 18-year-old male passenger from Bridgeport, who had been seated in the rear, was found outside the vehicle upon impact. The driver, a 20-year-old woman from Bridgeport, and Hernandez, who was riding in the front passenger seat, were both trapped inside the wreckage and required extrication by first responders.

All three were rushed to a nearby hospital as crews worked desperately to save their lives.

Despite those efforts, Jocelyn Hernandez was later pronounced dead from her injuries. Her passing has left family, friends, and the West Haven community shattered by grief and disbelief. Loved ones remember her as a gentle, loving, and bright soul whose presence brought comfort and warmth to those around her. She is described as someone who carried kindness in her heart, always offering care, compassion, and a genuine smile that uplifted others in quiet but meaningful ways. Her absence leaves a deep and painful void that words cannot fully express.

The driver remains hospitalized in critical condition, while the rear-seat passenger sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said the vehicle was traveling southbound at the time of the crash, though the exact cause of the driver losing control remains under active investigation. Authorities have not confirmed whether speed, impairment, roadway conditions, or seatbelt use played a role.

The crash prompted a significant emergency response, shutting down portions of Woodward Avenue as police, firefighters, and crash reconstruction teams worked to secure the scene and document the collision.
