Investigators identified the suspect as 41-year-old Levy Nelson, the father of Sadie Terry. Police say Nelson shot his teenage daughter, Sadie, as well as her 18-year-old brother, Zion Terry, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Zion, a student at John Marshall High School, was remembered as a young man with a future full of promise, including milestones such as graduation and prom.

Sadie Terry and her mother, 38, were both transported to a local hospital in critical condition. While the mother’s condition later stabilized, Sadie remained in life-threatening condition for several days.

On Friday night, Sadie Terry succumbed to her injuries, marking a second devastating loss in the same tragic incident.

Authorities described the shooting as stemming from a domestic dispute that escalated into deadly violence. The case was previously labeled by investigators as an attempted mass murder.

Following the incident, Levy Nelson fled the scene. Law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, tracked him using license plate reader data. He was later located in Henrico County after a brief pursuit involving multiple police units and taken into custody.

Nelson faces charges including malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, with additional charges expected as the investigation continues.

As Richmond grieves, Sadie Terry is being remembered as a bright young life taken far too soon. Her passing, alongside her brother Zion, has left a profound and lasting sorrow throughout the community.

Her memory now lives on in the hearts of those who loved her, as family, friends, and residents struggle to process an unimaginable loss.
