The community of Madison County is mourning the sudden loss of Rickey Wallace, a 37-year-old resident of North Zulch, who was killed in a fiery crash late on February 14.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred around 10:29 p.m. near Waller Road on Farm-to-Market Road 39. Investigators said Wallace was driving a 2013 Cadillac Escalade northbound and was allegedly street racing with a 2005 Dodge Neon when he lost control of the vehicle.

Authorities reported that the Escalade left the roadway, overturned, and became engulfed in flames. Wallace was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger inside the SUV was able to escape before the fire fully spread and was transported to St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan with suspected serious injuries.

The two occupants of the Dodge Neon were not injured. Officials confirmed that the investigation into the crash remains ongoing as authorities work to determine all contributing factors.
