Investigators said Arnold L. Meiring, 68, of Temperance, was driving a black 2014 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Secor Road when he began turning west onto St. Anthony Road.

At the same time, authorities said Clayton Devol was traveling southbound on an off-road motorcycle when the motorcycle collided with the turning pickup truck.

The impact reportedly ejected Devol from the motorcycle, causing him to come to rest on the east side of Secor Road. Officials stated the motorcycle caught fire following the collision.

Despite emergency response efforts, Devol was pronounced deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities noted that Meiring was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident and that the vehicle’s airbags deployed upon impact. He was not injured.

Investigators also identified several contributing factors in the collision. According to officials, Devol was not wearing a helmet, and the off-road motorcycle was not equipped with either a headlight or taillight. Authorities further stated that the motorcycle was not authorized for roadway use.

Emergency personnel from the Bedford Township Fire Department, Monroe Community Ambulance, and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Unit and Chaplain Program responded to the scene.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division continues to investigate the crash as family members, friends, and community residents grieve the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Clayton J. Devol.

Loved ones continue remembering him with sorrow and reflection as the Temperance community comes together in support during this difficult time.
