Gerald Nevels Obituary-Death – A U.S. Postal Service driver has died following a violent hit-and-run crash Wednesday evening in Kansas City, Missouri, and police are still searching for the suspect involved.
According to the Kansas City Police Department, officers responded around 7:15 p.m. on May 13, 2026, to the intersection of E. 30th Street and Benton Boulevard after reports of a serious collision involving a USPS delivery vehicle.
Investigators said a USPS Dodge van was traveling southbound on Benton Boulevard when a gray Chevrolet Equinox allegedly ran a stop sign while entering the intersection from E. 30th Street. The vehicle reportedly drove directly into the path of the postal van.
The impact caused the USPS vehicle to flip onto its driver’s side, partially ejecting the driver. Authorities confirmed that the postal worker, identified by loved ones as Gerald Nevels, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the driver of the Chevrolet fled immediately after the crash and has not yet been identified or located.
Officials noted that the incident marks Kansas City’s 26th fatal crash of the year, compared to 24 at the same time in 2025. Authorities also stated it is the second crash involving a USPS vehicle within just two days, raising additional concern among investigators.
The Kansas City Police Department said the investigation remains active and ongoing as detectives work to identify and locate the suspect. Anyone with information is urged to contact local authorities.
