Authorities have identified the victim as William “Cliff” Clifton Kirby, who died after being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of an Arby’s restaurant on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Columbia County Coroner’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 2:46 p.m. as Kirby exited his parked vehicle and walked through the rear section of the parking lot. He was struck by a vehicle driven by Brian C. Ross, 58, also of Augusta.
Emergency responders transported Kirby to Wellstar Hospital of Augusta following the collision. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead on Monday due to the severity of his injuries.
Sheriff’s investigators are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash, including how the collision occurred in the busy parking area. No charges have been publicly announced as the investigation continues.
