Before continuing his journey at Sacred Heart, Birtwell began building his collegiate baseball career at Gordon College, where he showcased his growth and determination on the mound. During the 2025 season, he made 12 appearances, including 10 starts, recording 47 strikeouts over 46.2 innings. The year prior, he contributed 27 strikeouts across 14 games, reflecting his steady development and commitment to excellence.

A graduate of Norwell High School in 2023, Birtwell stood out as a versatile athlete, playing as a pitcher, infielder, and outfielder. His leadership and dedication earned him the role of team captain in his senior year, along with recognition as a three-time South Shore League All-Star.

Beyond athletics, Birtwell was equally accomplished academically and in extracurricular activities. He played a significant role in his school’s robotics program, serving as Build Captain and later Drive Captain for the Norwell 348 Robotics Team—demonstrating his strong technical abilities and teamwork skills.

Friends and teammates remember Jack as a driven yet humble individual who brought positivity and encouragement to those around him. Whether on the field or in the classroom, he was known for his resilience, leadership, and ability to uplift others.

Born on February 4, 2005, Birtwell was the beloved son of Bruce and Kate Birtwell and a caring brother to Audrey and Julia. His family, along with countless friends and mentors, now mourn the loss of a young man whose impact extended far beyond sports.

At Sacred Heart, Birtwell planned to study Exercise Science, with aspirations of becoming both a professional baseball player and a Doctor of Physical Therapy—goals that reflected his passion for athletics and his desire to help others.

As tributes continue to pour in, the Sacred Heart baseball program and the wider university community remain united in grief, honoring a life defined by perseverance, leadership, and heart.
