The Birdville High School Hawk Softball community is grieving the loss of former assistant coach Wade Hopson, a beloved mentor whose influence shaped the program for two decades. Coach Hopson, who served from 2003 until his retirement in 2023, leaves behind a legacy defined not just by victories, but by heart.
Over 20 years, Hopson helped guide Birdville Softball to remarkable success, including a state championship that stands as a highlight of his coaching career. Yet those closest to the program say his true impact can’t be measured in wins and losses. What set Coach Hopson apart was his infectious passion—for the sport, for life, and especially for the student-athletes he coached.

Players and colleagues remember him as a steady presence who cared deeply about developing young women both on and off the field. His encouragement, dedication, and genuine love for the game created lasting bonds and life lessons that extended far beyond softball.
As the program reflects on Coach Hopson’s remarkable journey, the memories shared among players, families, and fellow coaches speak louder than any statistic. Countless photographs document his time on the field, but it is the moments of guidance, laughter, and mentorship that remain most vivid.
The Birdville Softball family extends its heartfelt condolences to the Hopson family. Coach Wade Hopson’s legacy will continue to live on through the athletes he inspired and the program he helped build. He will be remembered always.
