When authorities arrived, they encountered a severe crash involving two Ford pickup trucks, both towing trailers. Investigators say a white Ford F-250 traveling northbound crossed the center line and collided head-on with a white Ford F-550 traveling southbound.
Preliminary findings suggest the northbound driver may have been braking prior to crossing into oncoming traffic, with tire marks on the roadway supporting that possibility. The force of the impact left both vehicles heavily damaged and scattered across the roadway.
Cary Dean Carlile was pronounced dead at the scene by the Johnson County Coroner’s Office. Officials confirmed that an autopsy has been scheduled as part of the ongoing investigation.
Three other individuals sustained injuries in the crash and were transported to hospitals in the Indianapolis area. One victim, who was trapped beneath a steering column, had to be extricated from the wreckage and was later airlifted by Lifeline helicopter due to the severity of their injuries.
The crash led to the closure of State Road 135 for several hours as emergency crews worked to assist victims, clear debris, and reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the collision.
Authorities say the investigation remains active, with officials examining potential contributing factors including speed, driver behavior, and road conditions.
The sudden loss of Cary Dean Carlile has left family, friends, and the Morgantown community grieving, as they remember a life cut short in a tragic moment on what began as an ordinary day.
