According to the Jackson Police Department, officers were dispatched to the park around 7:30 p.m. following reports of gunfire during what was described as a large celebration involving a group of young people. Police discovered one victim lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. Officers immediately began administering life-saving measures until emergency responders arrived and transported him to a nearby hospital. A second victim had already been rushed to the hospital by private vehicle before officers reached the scene.
Despite efforts to save him, the first victim—identified as Justin Body—later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities confirmed that his next of kin have been notified. The second victim remains hospitalized, though their current condition has not been publicly disclosed.
