According to the Shelby County Coroner’s Office, the fatal collision occurred around 3 a.m. along Interstate 65 in Pelham. Authorities reported that Southard was traveling northbound in a 2012 Honda Accord when a truck, driven by 37-year-old April Ballard of Leeds, entered the northbound lanes while traveling in the wrong direction.

The vehicles collided head-on in a crash described as catastrophic. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, Southard was pronounced dead at the scene. Ballard also suffered fatal injuries and died as a result of the collision.
