Zion Terry Obituary, Death; A sense of shock and sorrow has gripped the community of Richmond following the tragic death of 18-year-old Zion Terry, who was killed in a domestic-related shooting early Tuesday morning.
According to the Richmond Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 3100 block of 5th Avenue around 9:50 a.m. on April 21, 2026, after receiving reports of gunfire inside the home. Upon arrival, they discovered Terry suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency response efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Inside the residence, officers also found two additional victims—a 38-year-old woman and a 14-year-old girl. Both were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that the adult woman’s injuries are now considered non-life-threatening, while the teenage victim remains in critical condition.
Investigators later identified the suspect as 41-year-old Levy Nelson of Richmond. Following a coordinated multi-agency search, Nelson was apprehended in Henrico County. Officials stated that his arrest was aided by public tips and license plate reader technology.
During the arrest, authorities reported that a Henrico officer was injured after Nelson collided with multiple vehicles, including police units. The extent of the officer’s injuries has not been fully disclosed.
Nelson has been charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, with additional charges expected as the investigation progresses.
