Officers responded to reports of a shooting just before 11 p.m. in the 600 block of Kenyon Street NW, where they discovered an adult female suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say preliminary findings suggest the woman had been arguing with a man in an alley when she was shot. The suspect fled the area immediately after the incident and remains at large.
During the investigation, police learned that the victim’s 2-year-old child was unaccounted for, prompting an urgent search. Royce Hawkins is described as a Black male with a light complexion, brown eyes, and black hair. He was last seen wearing a long-sleeve yellow and blue striped shirt.
Authorities are also searching for a man believed to be in his mid-20s, wearing all black clothing and a ski mask, who is considered a person of interest in the case.
The Metropolitan Police Department is urging the public to come forward with any information that could help locate the child. Anyone with details is asked to call 911 immediately or contact police at 202-727-9099.
