Preliminary reports indicate that Hinton’s patrol vehicle was traveling northbound when it struck the rear of an 18-wheel tractor-trailer moving in the same direction. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and attempted to render aid, but Hinton was pronounced dead following the collision.
The crash led to a temporary shutdown of U.S. Highway 43 as investigators worked to process the scene. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency later confirmed that all lanes were reopened after the wreckage was cleared.
Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Chief Stuckey described Hinton as “a fine officer,” noting that his loss has deeply impacted the entire department. In addition to his law enforcement service, Hinton was a former member of the United States Marine Corps, reflecting a life committed to service and protecting others.
He was also recently engaged and had just purchased a home, marking the beginning of a new chapter that has now been tragically cut short.
As the Thomasville Police Department and the wider community mourn, tributes continue to honor a young officer remembered for his dedication, integrity, and willingness to serve. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
