Investigators reported that the Hyundai, driven by 79-year-old Lois Jones, was traveling eastbound and attempting to make a left turn onto Veterans Parkway when it collided with the westbound motorcycle operated by Hayes.

The impact caused the motorcycle to strike the left front of the SUV before sliding off the right side of the roadway. Emergency responders from Union Township EMS transported Hayes to Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, where he was later pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities confirmed that Jones was not injured in the incident.

Multiple agencies, including Union Township Fire and EMS and the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, assisted at the scene. Westbound lanes of US 50 were shut down for approximately two hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage and conduct an initial investigation.

Officials say the crash remains under investigation as they work to determine all contributing factors. Hayes’ death marks another heartbreaking loss on the roadway, leaving family and friends mourning a young life cut short.
