According to authorities, the incident occurred just before midnight on April 18, 2026, in the parking lot of a Wavaho gas station located in the 10 block of Third Avenue North, directly across from the Elyton Village public housing community. Officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving multiple 911 calls, along with alerts from the ShotSpotter system indicating that numerous gunshots had been fired in the area.

When police arrived, they found Gee suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot. Emergency responders from the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service transported him to UAB Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead at 12:23 a.m.
