According to the Newton County Coroner’s Office, the collision occurred around 7:12 p.m. on Interstate 65 southbound near the 233-mile marker. Authorities reported that a pickup truck-type vehicle collided with the trailer of a semi-tractor-trailer.

Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, where Nitcher, who was a passenger in the pickup truck, was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials confirmed that the driver of the pickup truck was transported to Franciscan Health – Crown Point with non-life-threatening injuries. Nitcher’s remains were transported to the Tippecanoe County Morgue, where an autopsy is scheduled. Authorities have also confirmed that his family has been notified.
