
Rodney L. Merce Obituary, Death; The community of Kimbolton is mourning the passing of Rodney L. Merce, age 73, who died on April 16, 2026. His death has brought deep sadness to family, friends, and all who knew him, as they reflect on a life marked by dedication, service, and love for his family.
Born on November 19, 1952, in Coshocton, Rodney was the son of the late Leroy and Ruth (Lawrence) Merce. He graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1971 and began his career working in the oil fields before later becoming a well-loved school bus driver for Ridgewood Schools, a role in which he made a lasting impression on generations of students.

Rodney is being remembered as a hardworking, kind-hearted man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and caring for his yard, but above all, he cherished time spent with his grandchildren, who brought him immense happiness and pride.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Cristie Merce; his children Keith (Sarah) Merce and Brian (Courtney) Merce; grandchildren Kamryn Mae Merce and Gabriel Allen Merce; a foster granddaughter; his sister Janet (Dave) Strouse; and many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Roger Merce, and his son Jason Merce, who passed away in 2021.
Per his wishes, Rodney will be cremated. A visitation will be held at Addy Funeral Home on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and again on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Isleta United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Dan Eggan officiating. A graveside service will take place afterward at Fairfield Cemetery.
In honor of Rodney’s life, the family has requested that donations be made to the Ridgewood FFA Chapter.
Rodney L. Merce will be remembered for his kindness, his dedication to his community, and his deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched throughout his years of service and compassion.
