Julia McDermott Obituary, Death; The community of Roscommon Town is mourning the peaceful passing of Julia McDermott, who died on April 17, 2026, in her 97th year.
Julia, formerly of Cloonartbeg, Tulsk, Co. Roscommon, passed away in the compassionate care of staff at Oakwood Nursing Home, where she had been receiving support. She had also previously been cared for at home by a dedicated team of caregivers.

She was predeceased by her parents, William and Annie, her brother Peter, sisters Mary (Connaughton), Lena, and Nancy, as well as her beloved nephew Billy.
Julia will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her nephews Michael and Eddie, her nieces-in-law Anne, Paula, and Anne, along with their families, extended relatives, friends, and the many neighbors who knew and cherished her over the years.
Funeral arrangements have been announced, with repose taking place at Smyth’s Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., followed by removal to the Sacred Heart Church. The Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m., with burial afterward in St Coman’s Cemetery.
Family flowers have been respectfully declined, with donations, if desired, to Roscommon Hospice.
Julia McDermott’s long life, filled with connection, care, and community, will be remembered with love by all who knew her.
