Investigators say Jackman was wanted in connection with a March 26 robbery at a Truist Bank branch in downtown Middleburg, as well as an April 1 robbery at a Capital One bank in the Virginia Gateway area of Gainesville, Virginia. In the Gainesville incident, authorities said a suspect entered the bank, jumped over the counter, and demanded money before fleeing in a white sedan. No weapons were displayed and no injuries were reported.
During the attempted arrest, officials say Jackman barricaded himself inside the home and made statements indicating he intended to harm himself. Deputies attempted to maintain communication, but contact was eventually lost. When authorities entered the residence, they discovered him deceased.
In a related development, Paul Peter Gerardi, 40, of Leesburg, Virginia, was arrested the same day in Fairfax County, Virginia. He faces charges including robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery in connection with the Gainesville case.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as they continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the robberies and the fatal standoff.
The incident has drawn attention across the region, marking a tragic conclusion to what began as an active investigation into a series of bank crimes.
