According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash occurred around 1:20 a.m. along Interstate 35W near Johnson Street. Investigators reported that Andrew was traveling northbound when his motorcycle struck a median guardrail. The impact caused him to continue for nearly a quarter mile before the bike came to rest against a guardrail on the opposite side of the roadway. He was later found on the left shoulder.

Authorities confirmed that Andrew was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and no alcohol is believed to have been a factor. Road conditions were described as dry, and no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
