Authorities confirmed that 21-year-old Connor L. Sandrock and his father, 50-year-old Benjamin G. Sandrock, both of rural Lyndon in Whiteside County, died after their pickup truck was struck by a train on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 3 p.m. at a private railroad crossing located just off Illinois Route 84, across from the Savanna Tri-Township Airport. Investigators say the pair were traveling in a pickup truck towing a boat and trailer when a southbound train collided with the vehicle.
Emergency responders from several agencies rushed to the scene, including fire departments from Savanna, Thomson, and Clinton, Iowa, alongside local law enforcement, conservation police, and the Illinois Department of Transportation. Despite the rapid response, both Connor and Benjamin Sandrock were pronounced dead as a result of the crash.
