According to Chicago Police and Fire Department officials, responders entered the home shortly before 6 p.m. after forced entry was made. Both victims were discovered in the basement and pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said Barbara Deer had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, while Kaleb Deer suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. A firearm was also recovered at the scene as detectives continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The case has prompted an intensive investigation as authorities work to determine what led to the deadly violence inside the home. Police have not yet announced any arrests, and the investigation remains active.
