Andre Sontay Obituary, Death; 19-Year-Old’s Death Ruled Homicide at Proud Lake

Authorities have confirmed that the death of Andre Sontay Avant Jr., of Inkster, has been officially ruled a homicide. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the fatal shooting and is seeking the public’s help in identifying the person responsible.

Avant’s body was discovered near a boat launch at Proud Lake Recreation Area. Deputies were called to the scene just before 9 a.m. Monday after a park visitor found his body in a pile of melting snow near the east side of Wixom Road, south of Sleeth Road. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Investigators later determined that Avant had suffered gunshot wounds.

Detectives continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. At this time, no suspect has been identified and the motive remains unknown. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage, canvassing the surrounding area, and speaking with potential witnesses in an effort to develop leads.

Michael Bouchard described the incident as “a brutal and senseless homicide,” stressing the importance of community cooperation. Authorities are urging anyone who was in the area on Sunday or early Monday morning, or who noticed suspicious activity, to come forward.
