
It is with profound sadness that the Louisiana Christian University Department of Music announces the passing of Dr. Cleamon Downs, a beloved retired Professor of Music whose influence shaped generations of students. Dr. Downs passed away while visiting his sister in Orlando, Florida, following a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Dr. Downs joined the Louisiana Christian University family in the fall of 1979 and devoted decades of service to the education and mentorship of young musicians. He faithfully taught Music History, Singing, and Church Music, bringing enthusiasm, depth, and inspiration into every classroom. His passion for music and teaching left a lasting impression on countless students.

Beyond his academic contributions, Dr. Downs was the longtime director of the Louisianians, the university’s distinguished all-male ensemble. Dr. Cleamon Downs’ legacy lives on through the many students he mentored and the voices he helped shape. He will be deeply missed by colleagues, former students, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
