Fargo, ND – The emergency medical services community is mourning the loss of Bob Klein, a dedicated paramedic whose nearly four-decade career was defined by service, education, and a profound commitment to helping others. Klein passed away on February 9, 2026, at Sanford Medical Center Fargo, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born in Langdon, North Dakota, Klein’s passion for emergency medicine began in 1987 when he earned his EMT certification and volunteered locally. He pursued his paramedic license in 1995 while helping run his family’s farm, demonstrating his dedication to both his community and his family. His leadership skills were evident as he directed the Langdon Ambulance Service before joining F M Ambulance in Fargo full-time in 2006.
At F M Ambulance, Klein served as Liaison Coordinator and later Lead Educator, playing a pivotal role in training generations of first responders and paramedic students. His contributions earned him numerous honors, including the F M Ambulance Achievement in Excellence Award, North Dakota EMS Instructor of the Year in 2008, and the American Ambulance Association Star of Life award in 2014. Outside of EMS, he enjoyed mechanics and restoration projects, pursuing these passions with the same dedication he brought to his work.
Colleagues and friends remember Bob Klein as a compassionate mentor, a skilled educator, and a tireless advocate for emergency medical services. His influence extended far beyond the ambulance bay, leaving a lasting imprint on the EMS community across North Dakota.
