Amelia Reyes Mendoza Obituary-Death – A tragic multi-vehicle crash in Milam County has claimed the life of a Cameron woman and left four others injured, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Troopers said the crash occurred around 9 a.m. on May 11 along U.S. Highway 77 near County Road 203 Loop. Authorities explained that eastbound traffic had been stopped because of a construction flagger working a TxDOT pavement project near Cameron. The roadway had been reduced to one lane, with vehicles being guided through the work zone by a pilot vehicle.

Investigators reported that a 2018 Dodge SUV driven by a 40-year-old man from Killeen approached the stopped traffic but failed to control its speed. The Dodge then struck the rear of a stationary 2023 Chevrolet SUV waiting in line.

Officials identified the driver of the Chevrolet as 68-year-old Amelia Reyes Mendoza of Cameron.

According to DPS, the initial collision triggered a chain-reaction crash involving three additional vehicles. Emergency responders transported five people to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple with injuries ranging from non-incapacitating to incapacitating.

Authorities later confirmed that Amelia Reyes Mendoza died from injuries sustained in the crash. Officials stated that next of kin have been notified.

The tragic accident has saddened members of the Cameron community as loved ones remember Mendoza and offer support to her grieving family.

Texas DPS continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the five-vehicle collision.
