Khamari Harrison Obituary, Death; Authorities in Hope Mills have charged two individuals in connection with the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Khamari Harrison, a tragic case that has shaken the local community and remains under active investigation.
According to the Hope Mills Police Department, officers responded around 12:20 a.m. Saturday to reports of gunfire in the area of Fox Ridge Road. Upon arrival, they found Harrison suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died from her injuries.

Investigators have since charged 20-year-old Julius Smith of Hope Mills with first-degree murder and multiple firearm-related offenses. Police say Smith was initially taken into custody on Monday for unrelated charges before being formally charged in connection with Harrison’s death two days later.
Authorities also arrested 37-year-old Brittany Grant, identified as Smith’s aunt. She is accused of helping Smith flee the scene after the shooting and has been charged with accessory after the fact. Grant later turned herself in and is currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
Officials say several weapons have been recovered during the course of the investigation, though it remains unclear whether any of them were used in the shooting. Detectives have credited key breakthroughs in the case to extensive investigative efforts, including the use of surveillance footage and license plate reader technology.
Police continue to urge anyone with information to come forward as the investigation progresses.
