Officials reported that the situation escalated into a vehicle chase that continued toward the campground entrance at Noccalula Falls. During the pursuit, the driver allegedly bypassed a gate in an attempt to evade officers before the vehicle eventually came to a stop.
Police say two individuals exited the vehicle at that point. While the driver was taken into custody after a struggle with officers, Corey fled the scene on foot. Authorities stated that he ran a short distance before attempting to escape by jumping over a fence.
In a tragic turn, Corey reportedly fell approximately 60 feet into a gorge, sustaining catastrophic injuries. Officers immediately shifted their focus from the pursuit to a rescue effort, calling for emergency assistance and attempting to reach him below.
