Devon Briggs Obituary, Death; A wave of grief has swept through multiple communities following the heartbreaking deaths of Devon Briggs, 23, of Buena Vista, Georgia, and Evelyn Plakal, 22, of Elgin, South Carolina, after a devastating crash in Augusta.
Authorities from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the Richmond County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the fatal accident occurred along Riverwatch Parkway near Goodrich Street, not far from the historic Confederate Power Works chimney. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene around 6 p.m. following reports of a serious crash.

Investigators revealed that the incident is believed to have taken place on April 18. Preliminary findings indicate that the vehicle was traveling westbound on Riverwatch Parkway at a high speed when it approached a curve. During the maneuver, the car reportedly veered off the roadway, struck a guardrail, and descended an embankment toward Goodrich Street before overturning.
Devon Briggs, who was identified as the driver, was ejected from the vehicle due to the force of the crash. Evelyn Plakal was found inside the overturned car. Despite the swift arrival of emergency crews, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 5:56 p.m.
