Authorities also confirmed that Terry Joe Hicks has been arrested in connection with the shooting and is currently being held at the Delaware County Jail as the investigation continues.
Chief Morris stated that the incident began when Hicks arrived at the residence and allegedly removed an air conditioning unit from the home. Investigators say Hicks then fired a gun through the opening created by the removal before entering the residence.
Officials have not confirmed whether Sharp was struck by that initial gunfire. However, police allege that once inside the home, Hicks assaulted Sharp before firing the fatal shot that caused their death.
Investigators noted that Hicks previously lived at the residence and is the estranged boyfriend of the woman currently staying there. However, authorities have not clarified the exact relationship between Sharp and the current resident.
Law enforcement officials have not yet disclosed what led to the confrontation, and the motive remains under active investigation. Detectives are continuing to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and reconstruct the timeline of events.
