
Pramanik Rukunuzzaman Obituary, Death; The community of Henrico County is in mourning following the tragic death of 21-year-old Pramanik Rukunuzzaman, who died after an apparent drowning incident in the James River on Saturday.
According to the Richmond Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 5:11 p.m. to the 500 block of Tredegar Street after reports that a person had gone underwater in the river. Emergency crews, including the Richmond Fire Department Water Rescue Team, quickly responded and began search operations in the fast-moving water.

Swift water rescue units later located Rukunuzzaman in the James River and brought him to the north bank, where first responders immediately began lifesaving efforts. He was transported to a nearby hospital, but despite all attempts to revive him, he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities say the Medical Examiner will determine the official cause and manner of death. However, investigators with the Richmond Police Department’s Major Crimes Division have confirmed that the incident is currently being treated as an accidental drowning.
The tragic news has left family, friends, and the wider Henrico County community devastated, as many struggle to process the sudden loss of a young life at just 21 years old.
First responders involved in the recovery operation also faced a difficult and emotional scene, highlighting the impact such incidents have on emergency personnel as well.
