According to the Portsmouth Police Department, officers responded around 10:44 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the 200 block of Mayflower Road. When they arrived, they found Blair suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency responders provided immediate aid and transported him to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities confirmed that his next of kin has been notified as the investigation continues.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect, identified as 54-year-old Bentley Tramaine Cherry, allegedly arrived at Blair’s home and became involved in an argument with him. Police say the confrontation escalated, leading to Cherry allegedly shooting Blair during the dispute.
Cherry was quickly taken into custody and is now facing multiple charges, including First Degree Murder, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, and Shooting in Committing or Attempting a Felony. Officials confirmed that he is being held without bond.
The case remains under active investigation, and authorities have not released further details at this time.
