Investigators say Rester was traveling northbound in a 2018 Toyota C-HR when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle crossed the centerline into the southbound lane.

At the same time, a 2024 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling in the opposite direction. The two vehicles collided head-on with significant force.
Authorities confirmed that Rester was properly restrained at the time of the crash. He sustained critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The driver of the Nissan also sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment.
