Investigators said two individuals were outside a Toyota minivan on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes, changing a tire, while a Toyota Corolla was parked roughly 50 feet behind them. Authorities reported that Tackett was seated inside the Corolla when a 2011 Audi A4 traveling eastbound lost control, veered off the roadway, and struck the rear of the vehicle, triggering a chain-reaction crash.

Police confirmed that Tackett was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:51 a.m. A second victim was transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition as a result of the collision.

Following the crash, officials said the Audi came to a stop and the driver fled on foot. The suspect was later located near a Lowe’s store on Georgesville Square Drive and taken into custody as the investigation continued.

The sudden and violent nature of the crash has left family, friends, and the broader Columbus community in shock and mourning. Loved ones are now remembering Jodi Tackett for her life and the memories she leaves behind, as they struggle to process the devastating loss.

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as they work to determine all factors that led to the crash and subsequent events.
