The North Jersey football community is grieving the passing of Christian “Chris” Olsen, a beloved athlete, mentor, and older brother of former NFL tight end and broadcaster Greg Olsen. Chris passed away at the age of 42 following a courageous battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. His family confirmed his death on Thursday, and Greg Olsen honored his brother with a heartfelt tribute, reflecting on Chris’s strength, resilience, and the joy he brought to those around him.
Born and raised in Wayne, New Jersey, Chris made a name for himself as a standout quarterback at Wayne Hills High School, playing under the guidance of his father, longtime coach Chris Olsen Sr. He helped lead the team to multiple sectional championships and was recognized as one of the area’s top athletes. Chris continued his football career at the University of Notre Dame before transferring to the University of Virginia, where he played for three seasons and earned the admiration of teammates and coaches for his leadership, dedication, and character.
In his final weeks, Chris spent time in Little Rock, Arkansas, surrounded by family and close friends, sharing laughter, stories, and the deep connections he nurtured throughout his life. He is survived by his wife, Lindsay—described by Greg as the love of Chris’s life—as well as his family and a wide circle of friends.
Chris Olsen is remembered not only for his athletic accomplishments but for his infectious smile, generous heart, and enduring kindness. His legacy extends far beyond the football field, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. The community honors his memory, celebrating a life defined by love, courage, and the meaningful connections he created.
