LEWISTON – A quiet Juniper Drive neighborhood was rocked by tragedy late Thursday night when a single-vehicle crash claimed the life of 49-year-old Jack Caldwell. The accident occurred around 11:35 p.m. on January 29, when Caldwell was driving his red 2004 Saturn Vue southbound. For reasons still under investigation, the SUV veered off the west side of the road and struck a tree.
First responders rushed to the scene after neighbors called for help, performing life-saving measures at the roadside before Caldwell was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police from the Lewiston Police Department’s Major Collision Investigation Team closed the 2900 block of Juniper Drive for about two hours while documenting the scene and collecting evidence. Authorities have not released information on why the SUV left the road and are urging anyone who may have witnessed the vehicle before the crash to come forward.
Friends and neighbors remember Caldwell as a warm and generous presence, someone who brightened gatherings and offered support to those around him. Community members have shared memories of his laughter, kindness, and the quiet ways he cared for others, describing his passing as a profound loss.
Caldwell’s family expressed gratitude to first responders and the community for their support, requesting privacy as they grieve. They encouraged anyone wishing to honor his memory to carry out acts of kindness, reflecting the way he lived his life.
