DARKE COUNTY, OH – The tight-knit community of Darke County is grieving the sudden death of 20-year-old Xavier Miller, who was fatally injured in a snowmobile crash Thursday night, January 29.
Emergency responders, including the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, Ansonia Rescue, and Versailles Fire Department, arrived just before midnight to Brown Road near Shaffer Road after reports of a serious accident. A CareFlight helicopter airlifted Miller to Miami Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead early Friday morning.
Investigators say Miller was riding a 2003 Ski-Doo MXZ south through a snowy field when his vehicle struck an embankment, lifted into the air, and collided with a highway guardrail. He was thrown onto the roadway, prompting lifesaving efforts from first responders. The crash remains under investigation.
Friends and neighbors remember Miller as a lively and bright young man, whose energy and warmth left a lasting impression. The community has rallied around his family, offering support and sharing memories of his laughter and spirit.
Winter recreation can pose serious risks, and local officials are reminding residents to exercise caution during outdoor activities. Plans are underway for gatherings to celebrate Xavier’s life and the impact he had on those around him.
