
The first responder community in New Jersey and Pennsylvania is mourning the loss of Valentin “Val” Hunsicker, a devoted firefighter, EMT, and respected public servant whose life was defined by service to others.
Val, who had strong ties to Sparta and Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey, was widely known for his compassion, reliability, and unwavering commitment to emergency service. He began his career as an EMT with the Hopatcong Ambulance Squad, where he quickly earned the admiration of colleagues and community members alike.
Even after relocating to Milford, Pennsylvania, Val remained deeply connected to Hopatcong. He frequently returned to volunteer for additional shifts, continuing to serve the community that helped shape his career. Those who worked alongside him recall a selfless responder who never hesitated to step up when help was needed.
After settling in Pennsylvania, Val expanded his service by joining the Milford Fire Department as a firefighter. His dedication and professionalism left a lasting impression on the department, where he was regarded as both a dependable teammate and a trusted friend.
News of his passing prompted an outpouring of grief and remembrance from fellow first responders. The Hopatcong Ambulance Squad shared that Val’s death was devastating, noting his continued loyalty to the squad even after his move. They expressed condolences to his family and the Milford Fire Department, honoring his legacy of service and brotherhood.
