The Owensboro community is grieving the loss of a respected public servant and mentor following the passing of Jason W. Goddard, who died Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the age of 55.
Goddard’s death has prompted an outpouring of remembrance from family, fellow officers, educators, students, and residents who credit him with making a lasting difference both in uniform and beyond it. Known for his approachable nature and steady leadership, Goddard dedicated more than two decades to protecting and guiding others.
Born February 4, 1971, Goddard was the son of the late Ronald Moore Goddard and Sandra Rogers Goddard. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College before beginning a career in law enforcement marked by versatility and commitment.
He joined the Owensboro Police Department in 2002, where he served in numerous capacities, including patrol officer, police training officer, juvenile detective, patrol sergeant, and Emergency Response Team member. Colleagues recall him as an officer who balanced professionalism with compassion, particularly when working with youth and families.
In 2023, Goddard transitioned into a new chapter of service as a School Resource Officer with Daviess County Public Schools. Assigned to schools on the district’s west side, he became a familiar and trusted presence in hallways and classrooms, forging meaningful connections with students while helping maintain a secure learning environment.
Outside of his professional duties, Goddard remained deeply invested in youth development through athletics. He volunteered as an assistant coach for the Daviess County High School boys’ soccer program and served as a soccer referee for nearly 20 years, roles that allowed him to mentor young athletes both on and off the field.
Goddard is survived by his wife of 26 years, Stacy Mills Goddard; sons Jackson and Keaton; sister Julee Goddard; brother Jeff Goddard; and a large extended family of in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 23, 2026, at Owensboro Christian Church, with burial following at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation was offered on Sunday and Monday prior to the service.
As Owensboro reflects on his life, Jason W. Goddard is remembered not only for his badge, but for his kindness, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to the people he served. His influence will continue to be felt in classrooms, on playing fields, and throughout the community he called home.
