Jesse Jackson Obituary, Death; Civil Rights Icon Jesse Louis Jackson, Sr. Passes Peacefully

The family of the Honorable Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson, Sr., has announced with deep sorrow his peaceful passing on Tuesday morning, surrounded by loved ones.

A monumental figure in the American Civil Rights Movement and the founder of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, Reverend Jackson devoted his life to advocating for justice, equality, and human dignity. From his groundbreaking presidential campaigns in the 1980s to mobilizing millions of voters and championing the rights of marginalized communities worldwide, his work left an indelible mark on the nation’s social and political landscape.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jacqueline, his children Santita, Jesse Jr., Jonathan, Yusef, Jacqueline, and Ashley, and his cherished grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Burns Jackson; father, Noah Louis Robinson; and stepfather, Charles Henry Jackson.

“Our father was a servant leader to the world,” the family said. “We ask that his life be honored by continuing the work of justice and equality that defined his mission.”

Public observances will be held in Chicago, with final arrangements and details for a celebration of life to be announced by the Rainbow PUSH Coalition.
