The Willie Papu, leader and founder of the Samoa Independent Seventh Day Adventist Church, has passed away at the age of 86. Church leaders announced that Pastor Papu died peacefully at his home in Mangere at 1:32 a.m. (NZ Time), marking the end of an era for the ministry he established over four decades ago.
Pastor Papu founded SISDAC in 1983 alongside his wife, Elizabeth Papu, beginning a ministry that overcame early challenges through perseverance and faith. Under his guidance, the church expanded beyond Samoa, establishing congregations internationally and fostering a sense of spiritual community across generations.
Despite ongoing health challenges, Pastor Papu remained devoted to his calling. Church officials shared that he delivered a final sermon during the celebration of his 86th birthday on February 7 in Mangere, an event that brought together leaders from multiple countries and became a poignant moment for the congregation.
Members of SISDAC worldwide are mourning the loss of what many describe as a spiritual father and patriarch. At the time of his passing, key church leaders, including Iafeta Masipa’u and Lagolago Levae, were in Samoa, continuing to guide the church.
Funeral services and memorial arrangements will be shared with members of SISDAC both locally and internationally as the church honors the life and enduring legacy of Pastor Willie Papu, whose dedication and leadership shaped a ministry that will continue to inspire generations.
