TWIN LAKES, Iowa — A bus carrying members of the Iowa Lakes Community College baseball team crashed Wednesday morning, leaving one person dead and dozens injured. The single-vehicle accident occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Iowa Highway 4 near 220th Street, just west of Twin Lakes, when the bus left the roadway and overturned into a ditch. Authorities are still investigating the cause.

Trooper Paul Gardner reported that 33 people were on board at the time of the crash, all sustaining injuries ranging from minor to severe. Two individuals were airlifted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, while ten others were transported to a local hospital. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending family notification.

Iowa Lakes Community College confirmed one of its buses was involved and emphasized that student and staff safety is its top priority. “The College is actively supporting those affected and communicating directly with families,” the statement read.

North Arkansas College, where the team was scheduled to play on Thursday, expressed condolences, calling the incident a “tragedy that reaches far beyond one campus” and offering support to the Iowa Lakes community.

Highway 4 was temporarily closed but has since reopened. Authorities continue to investigate the crash, with further details expected as the situation develops.
