Born on June 4, 1935, in Campbell, Ohio to John and Catherine (Popovich) Sweder, Tom graduated from Struthers High School in 1952. He served his country with honor in the United States Army, including a two-year deployment in Germany, and continued service in the Army Reserves, exemplifying a lifetime of dedication to both nation and community.

Tom’s professional career was marked by long-standing commitment and leadership. Beginning as a bank teller at Dollar Savings and Trust, he rose to Assistant Vice President, serving from 1952 until 1997. He also devoted 28 years as Treasurer of the City of Struthers, retiring in 2005, and held leadership roles with the Public Employee Retirees, Mahoning County Chapter 18, earning widespread respect for his integrity and service.

A devoted parishioner of Christ Our Savior Parish, St. Nicholas Church, Tom lived his faith through action and example. Outside of work, he cherished family time, particularly with his grandchildren—Ryan, Jason, Evan, and Riley—while enjoying bowling, local dances, and cheering for his favorite teams alongside his beloved wife, Mary Ann.

Tom is survived by his son, Jeffrey (Christie) Sweder; daughter-in-law, Nikki Sweder; grandchildren; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; his son, Michael; and other cherished relatives.

Tom Sweder’s legacy is defined by love, humility, and steadfast service. His presence will be deeply missed, but his impact on family, colleagues, and community will endure for generations. May he rest in peace.
