Born and raised in Dundee, Wallace’s connection to the club began in childhood, inspired by heroes like Billy Steel. He honed his skills at Rockwell School, Lawside Rangers, and Dundee North End before moving through Alyth United, Montrose, and Raith Rovers, where his scoring exploits—including a 30-goal season that saved the club from relegation—earned him the Scottish Football Writers’ Player of the Year award, the first recipient outside the Old Firm.
Returning to Dundee in 1969, Wallace scored 119 goals during his tenure, becoming one of the club’s all-time leading scorers. His intelligence on the pitch, clinical finishing, and unwavering dedication made him a central figure in Dundee’s exciting early-1970s era. Later, he contributed as manager, coach, and advisor, including a key role in the 1990 Scottish League Centenary Cup triumph.
Honored with a Legends Award in the Dundee F.C. Hall of Fame in 2010, Wallace’s legacy extends far beyond statistics. He embodied loyalty, resilience, and a lifelong passion for his hometown club. Wallace will be remembered not just for his footballing achievements, but as a proud Dundonian whose influence continues to inspire players and supporters alike.
