
Silas Anderson Edwardsburg Obituary, Death; Union City Community Schools announced that all schools will remain closed on Monday as the community continues to recover from the devastation caused by a series of tornadoes that swept through Southwest Michigan, tragically claiming the life of 12-year-old Silas Anderson.
Silas, a sixth-grade student, was among four people who died on Friday during the severe weather that affected areas including Branch, Cass, and St. Joseph counties. The loss has sent shockwaves through the community, with students, families, and neighbors mourning the young life cut short.
In a letter to the community, Edwardsburg Public Schools Superintendent Courtney Szucs expressed condolences and shared resources for those affected. “It is with a heavy heart that I share the tragic passing of one of our 6th grade students,” Szucs wrote. “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the student’s family, friends, classmates, and all who knew and care about him. He was a bright and meaningful part of our Eddie community, and we know his loss is deeply felt by many.”
Szucs also outlined support measures for students and staff, noting that crisis team members from Edwardsburg Public Schools will be available in all school buildings to provide assistance for anyone struggling to cope with the tragedy. Additionally, transportation will be provided for CACC and BCAMSC students, and district officials said updates on school operations will continue throughout the week.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office, represented by Clint Roach, urged the public to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time. Meanwhile, local support efforts include the Edwardsburg Intermediate School cafeteria opening its doors for community members and first responders seeking assistance.
