Jason Hughes Obituary, Death Hall County; The North Hall High School community in Georgia is mourning the loss of Jason Hughes, a 40-year-old math teacher and coach, who died Friday night after being run over by a pickup truck in an apparent prank gone tragically wrong.

According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Hughes confronted a group of five 18-year-olds who had thrown toilet paper on trees at his home. As the group drove away, Hughes tripped and fell, and the vehicle ran over him. He later died at a hospital.

The five individuals involved—Jayden Ryan Wallace, Elijah Tate Owens, Aiden Hucks, Ana Katherine Luque, and Ariana Cruz—were arrested and charged with criminal trespass and littering on private property. Wallace also faces charges of first-degree vehicular homicide and reckless driving. The school district has not confirmed whether any of those arrested were current students.

Hughes is remembered by students, colleagues, and community members as a devoted teacher, mentor, and coach. “He was always there for you – well-known, well-respected, very beloved,” said former student Shayden Maynor. “He’s helped me through some pretty hard times, too, and he was just a great guy all the way around. It’s a very sad tragedy of what our community has lost.”

A makeshift memorial of flowers has been created outside North Hall High School as the community continues to grieve. Current students also recalled Hughes’ dedication. Olivia Williams, a sophomore, said, “He always tried to be the most supportive he could. He would show up to events he didn’t even know anything about just to be supportive, and that’s going to be really missed.”

Hughes is survived by his wife, a geometry teacher at North Hall, and their two children. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the family, raising over $55,000 as of early Sunday.

Hall County Schools described Hughes as “a loving husband, a devoted father, and a passionate teacher, mentor, and coach who was loved and respected by students and colleagues.”

The North Hall community continues to come together to honor Hughes’ life, remembering him as a dedicated educator whose impact extended far beyond the classroom.
