Toronto Synagogue Shooting; Shooting at Thornhill Synagogue Under Investigation

Toronto Synagogue Shooting
Toronto Synagogue Shooting; Police in York Region are investigating a shooting that targeted the Beth Avraham Yoseph of Toronto synagogue on Friday night.

Authorities were called to the Clark Avenue and York Hill Boulevard area just before midnight after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found that the front of the synagogue had been damaged, though no injuries were reported.

No suspect description has been released, but police noted that a dark sedan was seen in the area at the time of the shooting.

Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca condemned the attack, calling it both “disgusting and angering.” In a social media post, he highlighted the emotional impact on Jewish residents and criticized the repeated inaction by various levels of government.

“Too much inaction and repeated weak responses from too many leaders have permitted this behaviour to become normalized,” Del Duca wrote. “I have no doubt that many will take to social media to denounce what’s occurred, and then leave it at that. But words stopped being enough long ago.”

Police have established a command post at Promenade Mall to respond to public concerns and provide information as the investigation continues.
