Linda A. Anfuso Obituary, Death; Residents of Wilton, New Hampshire are mourning the loss of Linda A. Anfuso, 69, who died following a devastating house fire that broke out on the morning of March 4, 2026.
Emergency responders were dispatched shortly after 9:00 a.m. to a residence along Burns Hill Road after reports of heavy smoke and flames coming from a single-family home. By the time firefighters arrived, the structure was already heavily engulfed in fire.
Authorities soon learned that two occupants were trapped on the second floor of the house. Firefighters entered the burning building and successfully rescued both individuals, bringing them out of the home and transferring them to emergency medical personnel at the scene.
Linda Anfuso and a 70-year-old male resident were rushed to Elliot Hospital after suffering severe smoke inhalation. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Anfuso later succumbed to her injuries. Officials from the New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed her identity and ruled her death accidental.
The male resident remains hospitalized in critical condition as doctors continue to provide treatment.
Several neighboring departments assisted in responding to the emergency, including crews from Lyndeborough, Milford, Mont Vernon, Greenville, Temple, New Ipswich, and Peterborough. Additional support was provided by the Souhegan Mutual Aid and Wilton Ambulance. Officials reported that no firefighters were injured during the response.
Investigators from the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office are continuing to examine the cause of the blaze. Authorities say the fire does not appear to be suspicious and are looking into whether a reported power outage in the area may have played a role.
